USS WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) Keel Laying Watch Party

August 27 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Event Date & Time: 9:00 AM | Included with Admission

Join us at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum for a special Keel Laying Watch Party celebrating the beginning of construction on the USS Wisconsin (SSBN 827), the latest ballistic missile submarine to carry our state’s proud name.

The keel laying is a time-honored naval tradition dating back to the age of wooden ships, marking the ceremonial placement of the ship’s “backbone. Today, this event symbolizes the transition from design to reality—when the first major modules of the vessel are joined together.

The ceremony not only blesses the ship with good fortune during construction but also offers well-wishes for the future captain and crew. A highlight of the tradition includes the ship’s sponsor inscribing their initials on a steel plate that will be permanently affixed to the submarine.

Celebrate history in the making and be part of this powerful naval milestone. Admission to the watch party is included with regular museum entry. Don’t miss your chance to witness this historic moment for the USS Wisconsin (SSBN 827) and the legacy she will carry forward.
