Shipwreck Day

Join us at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum on Saturday, September 20th, from 10:00 am–3:00 pm for a full day of discovery, adventure, and hands-on fun as we explore the mysteries of Great Lakes shipwrecks! Stop by to see diving gear, ROVs, and real shipwreck artifacts. Even build your own wreck site out of LEGOs! Families, history buffs, and curious minds of all ages are invited to explore the stories of the past and the science behind maritime archaeology.
Free Youth Admission (12 years old and under) is offered all day. An adult must accompany children.
Schedule:
10:00am – 4:00pm: Museum Open
10:00am – 3:00pm: Shipwreck Activities throughout the Museum
10:30am: “Lost Leviathans” with Historian Brendon Baillod (WUAA) – Discover the biggest ships still missing on Lake Michigan and the stories they left behind.
12:30pm: Storytelling Hour with Roseann St. Aubin (WSCNMS) – The story of Gertrude Berndt, who survived not one, but two maritime disasters.
2:00pm–3:00pm: Shipwreck Gallery Tour with Executive Director Kevin Cullen – Learn all about Wisconsin’s shipwrecks and efforts to preserve them, both in the museum and across the state.
