Shine She Must: Keeping Cobia Alive — Documentary Premiere

Join the Wisconsin Maritime Museum for the one-night-only premiere of Shine She Must: Keeping Cobia Alive, a documentary chronicling USS Cobia’s journey through an extensive dry-dock maintenance project in 2025.
On September 7, 2025, World War II submarine USS Cobia left her home port in Manitowoc for Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay for long-overdue maintenance. More than a restoration story, Shine She Must follows museum staff, shipyard crews, volunteers, and the waterfront community as they take on the massive task of preserving one of America’s most historically accurate fleet submarines.
Battling time, Mother Nature, and mounting costs, the film explores the very real challenge of preserving living history—and what happens when a community comes together to ensure Cobia’s legacy is not forgotten. It is a story of craftsmanship, local pride, and the people determined to keep this remarkable piece of Wisconsin and American history alive.
