USS Hammerhead made seven war patrols during World War II. Hammerhead earned a total of seven Battle Stars and the Navy Unit Commendation on her second patrol. She sank eleven ships for a total of 35,635 tons. Hammerhead was decommissioned in January 1947 and transferred to Turkey in October of 1954 where she was renamed Cerbe (S 341).
