The Origins of Death’s Door: An Author Talk

October 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

At the tip of the Door Peninsula, there is a body of water whose name conjures images of perilous waves and disastrous wrecks: Port Des Morts or Death’s Door. A seemingly well-earned name, given the numerous ships who have fallen victim to this narrow strait’s hidden shoals, strong currents, and treacherous weather. Yet the precise origins of the name are shrouded in a mystery that goes back at least three centuries.

Join Brennan Christianson, Collections Coordinator at the Door County Maritime Museum, as he delves into the history and legend of Death’s Door. Learn about this passage’s complicated past on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 6:30pm at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc! Admission is free and open to the public. There will be a limited cash bar available.

This event is presented in collaboration with Voyageur Magazine.
