From the Emerald Isles to our Inland Seas: Maritime Archaeology off the West Coast of Ireland to the Bottom of Lake Michigan
Speaker: Kevin Cullen (Deputy Director & Chief Curator), Wisconsin Maritime Museum
Ireland’s maritime landscape is famed for its rugged beauty and charming coastal communities. Countless generations of mariners have braved these emerald seas; to fish, trade and even transport people vast distances across the Atlantic Ocean. Many of these Irish immigrants began arriving in Wisconsin in the 1840s as they sought relief from the Great Famine. As an immigrant of Ireland himself, Kevin will share his intimate knowledge of Ireland’s rich maritime heritage and how it relates to Wisconsin’s own nautical past.
