Help Preserve Our History

Stool from the wreck of Rouse Simmons in need of conservation

Did you know that the artifacts you see on exhibit account for only 5% of the museum’s total collection? Meanwhile, behind the scenes the rest of our 80,000 artifacts and archival materials still need proper housing and care.

These artifacts may be displayed in future exhibits, used for academic research, or printed in publications. Because public access is vital to our mission, we take great care to ensure the safest possible environment for collections on display. This often includes the very time-consuming and costly process of conservation.

Many of our artifacts are in need of conservation, and all require daily preventative care. Help us preserve these important pieces of our past by adopting an artifact. Donate today!
