USS Pogy served ten war patrols in the Pacific Ocean in World War II, sinking a total of 16 Japanese ships. She earned eight Battle Stars and the Navy Unit Commendation.  On her fourth patrol, Pogy sank a 6,081 ton submarine tender and a 5,000 ton transport loaded with troops. The 27 depth charges dropped on her caused damage that ended the patrol after just 28 days. Pogy was struck from the Naval Register in 1958.
