Fish Friends & Foes (Kindergarten & 1st Grade)

Follow the life story of Rex, a Chinook salmon, to discover how this ocean fish has adapted to life in Lake Michigan. Learn what makes a fish’s body perfect for life in the water, and meet one of Rex’s foes, the sea lamprey.  

 

What Floats Your Boat? (Kindergarten & 1st Grade)

Learn the science of sinking and floating using actual Great Lakes cargo with model boats.  Experiment with weight, volume, and distribution as you try to keep your boat afloat in the Children’s Waterways Room!

 

Water All A-Ground (1st & 2nd Grade)

Many people depend on groundwater for their daily needs.  Through active, hands-on activities, find out why water falls down, how it fills spaces and moves through layers of soil, and how we access that water for our use.  You’ll also learn how we can help keep groundwater clean.

 

Lake Talk (1st & 2nd Grade)

We will investigate forms of maritime communication from the past and present:  signal lights, Morse code, V-mail, and code flags. We’ll even do some of our own code-breaking!
