Of Ships and Men: The Edmund Fitzgerald

During a fierce Lake Superior gale on November 10, 1975, the ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald sank with the loss of all 29 crewmembers. Thirty-two years later, the exact cause of the sinking remains a mystery - one that may never be solved. The Edmund Fitzgerald has now become the stuff of Great Lakes lore and legend and immortalized in song and on film.

This exhibit features twelve detailed paintings of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald produced by artist Richard W. Sullivan as part of the Coast Guard's investigation into the sinking. The paintings were used to create a three-dimensional model of the wreck, also part of the exhibit.

The exhibit will run from November 10, 2007 through winter of 2008.
